Spiritual Formation

Our faith is central to everything that we do.  We believe that each child is a unique creation of God, and comes with a natural curiosity about and innate sense of the presence of God.  Our desire is to nurture and encourage that sense of wonder.  We primarily do this through keeping God close to us each day, through prayer & song, observing God’s creation through nature study and storytelling, using the Godly Play approach.  Godly Play uses Montessori principles to tell the great stories from the old & new testaments, and parables- to tell of God’s love for His people.  The story of our redemption through our Savior, Jesus Christ is woven throughout.  We highlight the special times of the church year. Advent helps us to prepare for the mystery of Christmas and Lent prepares us for the profound meaning of Easter.

Our Four’s class enjoys a monthly chapel service in the sanctuary.  Children take turns serving as acolytes, lighting the candles.  Our Director of Christian Education, Nathan Schmidt, sings songs, plays his guitar and teaches stories with a biblical theme through a puppet show.

“Children have a need for the complete and perfect love of God- whose gaze is unfailing; who sees all and never withdraws; who accepts everything about us both good and bad and loves us anyway…” Jerome Berryman, founder of Godly Play
